Sense of Place

A commission for the Derbyshire Community Foundation to respond to painter Lewis Nobel’s year long residency at four historic sites across Derbyshire as the first recipient of the Vickers Art Award.

Referencing Lewis' textural landscape paintings, the work explored the history and character of the sites through significant details of environment and architecture.

The sites comprised: Arkwright’s Mill Cromford; Sudbury Hall, Sudbury; Chatsworth House, near Bakewell; and John Lombe’s Silk Mill, Derby.

Gold, Selenium and Polytone Toned fibre-based silver gelatin hand prints and Archival Digital Prints on Permajet Museum (various sizes).

Exhibited alongside Lewis Nobel’s paintings at Locko Hall, Debyshire in December 2001 before touring to Derby Museum and Art Gallery and Buxton Museum and Art Gallery during spring 2002.
